Jesus Is Enough

Every Sunday we take communion to remember the sacrifice our savior made as He once commanded us to do. “And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’” (Luke 22:19-20 NIV). This time of year everyone focuses more on it. As we celebrate Easter, you will hear more than normal how Jesus died for us to take our sins away. While true, what if I told you that wasn’t it?
The Truth of His Death
Jesus died not only for our sins to be forgiven, but so we don’t have to. “Surely He took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered Him punished by God, stricken by Him, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by his wound we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV). Jesus died INSTEAD of us. You might be saying something like, “but people are still dying every day.” I am not talking of physical death, I am talking about eternity. We will still leave this earth, but we can choose not to be dead for eternity. What I mean by dead for eternity is this. When Jesus returns and sounds the trumpet that will raise Christians to life, will you be raised with them or remain dead forever?
Our Punishment
In Genesis 3:19, God declares, “for dust you are and to dust you will return.” The punishment for sinning is death. Every human sins because we are imperfect. Because we all sin, we all die. We should spend eternity suffering in eternal death because we do not deserve what God has given us. But because of Christ’s great sacrifice, we don’t have to.
Your Eternity
God has given all of us free will. How we live our lives is up to us. Do you follow Him or not? The path you choose will determine whether you spend eternity in death or eternity in life with Christ. Live for Him and you will live forever! “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21 NIV).
